Heart and Solar is pleased to announce its first major project, in support of:
Horizon Housing Society provides subsidized housing for tenants with a variety of needs, including individuals living with mental health challenges, physical disabilities, families and seniors living below the poverty line, and the working poor. Approximately 3,500 people are homeless and another 15,600 households are at risk of homelessness. Heart and Solar is tremendously excited to be working to provide a solar energy system for Horizon Housing Society's new building in the Glamorgan neighbourhood of Calgary. The Glamorgan project is a 161-unit building currently under construction with estimated completion in the fall of 2018 that will house over 200 Calgarians. See this link for more information about Horizon and the Glamorgan project.
With Project Horizon, Heart and Solar's goal is to provide this building with a 50 Kw solar energy system that will generate annual savings for the Glamorgan building's operating costs over the 25-year lifespan of the solar panels.
Impact of the Solar Panels:
- Reduces the the operating costs associated with the 161 unit development, allowing the operator to maintain affordable units for vulnerable families and individuals;
- Approximately $6,958 in annual savings;
- Offsets the energy use for 8-12 apartment units; and
- Directly reduces the energy bills of over 200 tenants of the new development.
